About Us

Slough Dominican Association

We are a small group of Dominicans in Slough who got together following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria on 18th September 2017, together with other Dominicans in the diaspora, actively worked at raising funds to help the rebuilding of our beautiful island.

Our Story so far…

To date we have raised around £15,000 towards our cause.

The first ever function that we held on 18th November 2017 at the Slough Irish Club with live music and DJ’s which was attended by over 200 people who supported our cause. We also held a raffle with prizes donated by the local community to large commercial businesses, which allowed us to purchase much needed supplies for several establishments in Dominica, including the Infirmary, some of the health centres and some of the primary and pre-schools in Dominica.

So far each year we have held our annual Dinner and Dance event locally which have been well attended by around 200 people on each occasion.  We have also held regular dances with club and radio DJ’s like Club Zouk’s Ninjaman Lloyd, Mikey Afrique, Super Jam’s Daddy Ernie, Roy Medallion to name a few.

In June 2019 we hosted together with other local Caribbean groups a Dinner to commemorate the seniors who came to England from 1948 to 1972 known as the Windrush Generation. Over 100 seniors were invited to an afternoon of wonderful music from Boss and the Horsepower band, DJ Patrickson and Slough’s very own local poet Lenox Carty.

As a result of getting involved in the Windrush commemoration SDA is now working with the other Caribbean Associations to form the Slough Caribbean Forum to support our elders and our young in our community in Slough.

In Feb 2020 we teamed up with Help for Dominica to send another container of medical and school supplies to Dominica including 10 much needed wheel chairs to the Infirmary.

SDA have also been working with Slough Outreach, a local charity feeding the homeless in Slough. We have cooked and served food to homeless people on the High Street on a Saturday night, and continue to supply cooking ingredients, plastic cups, containers, cutlery etc, when required to help their cause. We at SDA are dedicated to supporting this local charity
